22 ACRES OF OWN VINEYARDS
The Vukoje Cellars own vineyards in two locations: one being The Regal Vineyard at Ušće and the other covers The Vineyards of the Zasad polje.
The Regal Vineyard is situated 10 km away from city of Trebinje and is nested at the mouth of two rivers, the Trebišnjica and the Sušica. Back in 1894, Austro-Hungarians declared this region to be the most convenient area for growing white wine grapes called Žilavka, thus creating one of the two regal vineyards, whereby this spot was the only place for cultivating Žilavka that was exclusively delivered to the Viennese court.
The Vineyards of Zasad Polje are at the doorway of Trebinje and stretch across 20 acres along the Trebišnjica river-bed. On this location are found the following cultivars of grapes: Vranac, Žilavka, Cabernet sauvignon, Pinot noir, Merlot, Syrah, Muscat, and Chardonnay.
DUBRAVKA PERIN,
Enologist from Louis Max
Company, France:
“I believe it is hard to achieve what The Vukoje Cellars has managed to do. When I sip Žilavka or Vranac, I can be reminded of my childhood and of my homeland of Herzegovina. The typical aroma of Žilavka is a mixture of Sage (Salvia pratensis, lat.), and Golden Chain (Laburnum, lat.), while Vranac is a blend of the mature fruits of blackberry and elder in the month of August. When testing it, one can taste the pure sun reflected on the hot Herzegovinian karst that enriched the grapes with full maturity and flavour.”
WINE TOURISM
The Vukoje Cellars were part of The Herzegovina Wine Route Project. Now, they possess professional degustation halls with a capacity for 60 persons. The same number of guests can be welcomed in our restaurant Košuta (The Doe) where you would witness the marriage ceremony between our wines and Herzegovinian meals.
We can organize your visits, wine degustations or the vineyard and cellar tours (for both smaller and bigger groups). All of this can be accompanied by the peace and tranquillity of the karst landscape in which you can experience some unforgettable moments.
